Hi everyone.

Im new to this site and have no mechanical background. Im in the process of fixing my parents 79' bronco. It was stored in a garage for 5 years (winters). We recently moved and had to relocate it. We did a tune up and oil change and it wont start till about 5 6 tries, and runs for a bit backfires and shuts off. A buddy of mine mentioned that a couple of vacum hoses were missing but we cant tell which ones.

We checked the distributer cap, wires, but it still runs like crap. It was also brought to my attention that the gas tank has to flushed/replaced and if so, should i replace the fuel filter and pump? I was also reading through the forums and someone mentioned a "electronic choke". One guy said i have one and that the wires may be either damaged/loose. My tailgate is also messed up, im going to need a new one so if anyone has a website or parts distributer that they know of please let me know. Also, theres a relay switch right by the battery that is screwed up. I have to turn they key, pump gas, and touch the middle ***** and right ***** to get the truck running. Well thats so far what i know if anything else comes up ill post it. Thanks.

If it sat with gas in it, you will probably need to remove the carb, and either rebuild it or have someone rebuild it for you including soaking it in solvent and cleaning the entire carb inside and out. Change the oil, flush the entire fuel system, flush the coolant system. Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to replace the fuel pump and put a cleas gas filter so you can keep an eye out for crud being pumped thru the system. Replace plugs, wires cap and rotor.

If you aren't mechanically inclined take it to a good mechanic.

Good luck,

:)>-

Replacing the gas is the first step. Add some carb cleaners and Heet to take care of any water and crap in the carb. If it still runs like crap you should replace or rebuild the carb like stated. Was the truck running good when parked? If it was then some of those air lines might not be doing anyting. Once its running spray some carb cleaner or brake clean around carb and hoses, if the motor revs up you found a leak. Does the carb butteryfly close when you touch the gas once (motor off when cold)? Does it open back up once warmed up?

After cleaning out the fuel system make sure to check for critters in your exhaust. They love to fill the tailpipe with junk and make nests!! Eventually you'll blow them out!!
