I just got my '76 Bronco today and put new front brakes on it to try and combat what I thought was a brake problem. The pedal is hard, but the thing takes a ton to stop. It has manual brakes. Is this pretty normal for manual brakes? I haven't used manual brakes in a long time, so they are kinda new again. I only got to replace the front calipers and pads (discs looked good) and will tackle the rears this weekend. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

That is pretty normal for non-power brakes. You could look into converting to power brakes. Another option would be to cut holes in the floor board and get Swen and Olley to ride along with you when you go someplace. Then when you want to stop just have them drag their feet :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

Good luck,

LOL I will look at the power brake addition. I was just surprised at the difference. Guess I will have to slow down. I had to leave Swen and Olley when I returned stateside :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />. They were pretty upset.....

Todays high tech brake materials were not meant for non-power assisted brakes.

If your new brakes are high carbon metallic pads the brake pedal effort required to stop the truck is hugh compared to the amount of braking you actually get.

Organic or at the most semi metallic brake material work best for non assisted brakes, although they do fade quicker uder hard/ heavy use.
