I have a 74 that the previous owner had Dana 30 instead of a 44. Not sure why. The Dana 30 is trashed. I was wondering what options I had to go back with. I have 38's on the truck. Since the Dana 30 is trash I was wondering if I should put in a Dana 44, Dana 60, or ?

I want to be cost effective, but handle the load of a built 407 spinning 38's.

"...previous owner had Dana 30 instead of a 44..?"

One would have to ask.., how long DID the 30 hold up..? If it held up several yrs. with your style (& what might that be?)of use....

then a well built up 44 would do the job.

Mega boulder-hopp'n might be a diff. story..

A 407 and spinnin 38s? Does that mean smokin the 38s or just "has" 38s? If you are smokin 38s then you need some Dana 60s front and rear, a NV4500, an Atlas II and hopefully some good brakes. Im surprised that a Dana 30 even let you off the road with 38s. A Dana 44 with good shafts will hold up to 38s easy if you dont have a size 18 shoe mashing the gas pedal.
