Howdy Yall,

Sometime back, I saw a few pictures of a Bronco with a dual battery install. I have searched all over to find those pics, but can't. Can anyone provide a link/pics of a dual battery install?

Also, I am going to upgrade to 3G Alternator. Anyone know a good place to buy one? I'm wanting to replace the alternator in my 1987 Full size XLT (302 EFI). It's got a serpentine belt. I know it's a front mount, and it's tilted (not straight up and down). Which one do I need to buy?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas!

Depends on how you want that hooked up. The normal reason for a 2nd battery would be to run stuff while the truck is parked and not running. That way you keep from running the main battery down while doing something like camping. The arrangement for that requires a relay to isolate the two when the truck is not running. The relay is similar to a start solenoid but is continuous duty rated. Attached is a diagram of how Ford does it.

As far as the 3G goes, the one you need is the one with 7 inch spacing between the mounting bolts. Here is an article in Ford Muscle magazine, catch is you may have to subscribe to read the whole thing, I've been a subscriber several years now. http://www.fordmuscle.com/archives/2001/03...mance/index.php

You can get one from a Fort Taurus of the mid 90's. Make sure you get a 130 Amp version as shown in the picture. The visual key is the holes, if you look at the picture, where it has 2 holes, that is a 130A, if there are 4 holes there it is a 95 Amp version.

I'd buy it from a local parts dealer. I wouldn't [-X buy it from Fireguy50 at FSB. He sells great stuff but getting him to ship after you have paid him becomes a real aggravating issue. He doesn't answer emails and does it when he gets around to it. I currently have a filed complaint via PayPal against him. There have been complaints of waiting several months for shipment, I personally have waited several weeks just for a couple of small parts. Too bad he doesn't know anything about customer service.

Good luck,

:)>-

OOPS I left out an important page, the one that shows how they hook up the 2nd battery, (attached). Also, before you get the 3G check the distance between your mounting bolts. the one I suggested before is 7 inches, mine needed the one with 8.25 inches center to center on the bolts. If that is the case you can order the same one I have. Take a look at my installation pictures at superford, link in my signature.

Of course you need a heavier cable from the alternator and you remove the old voltage regulator. Attach the green with red stripe wire to the alternator harness. If you need a harness for the alternator, I have a couple in my garage. I have a 2 ga. cable from the alternator to the solenoid lug. Another thing I did recently is to run the sense line back to the alternator lug instead of the output lug on the alternator, I did that on the advice of Ron Francis, (who has a real nice line of auto electric products) http://www.ronfrancis.com . I could see a big difference in how well it regulated the overall truck voltage by doing it his way. You wouldn't think 2 feet difference in where you hook up the voltage sense line would have any effect, but it does. He suggests monitoring at the point where the voltage is distributed and in most trucks it is at the battery side solenoid lug.

Good luck,

:)>-
