Greetings: This is my first ever post to any forum discussion--much less one about trucks! <grin>
I'm hoping for some objective advice, because my perspective is anything but objective.
I have, for years, loved my little red and white Bronco II. She's a manual transmission, 4-wheel drive (with manual wheel locks). I am her second owner--I bought her in 1990, put in a new transmission and drove her exclusively for ten years, lovingly doing regular maintenance and keeping her in tip top shape. In 2000 I bought another vehicle and used the BII only for running around town. In 2004, she was parked, having recently turned 200,000 miles! and still sits in my driveway, because despite all the recommendations of my friends and loved ones---I have been unable to part with her.
The body is in fairly good condition--needs new paint on the bonnet. And there's one little dent on a rear fender that I had professionally painted, but not completely smoothed out, back in '95. Back hatch hydraulics no longer work fully, and the tire latch is pulling away from the door (fiberglass cracking, I think). When parked, the tires were brand spankin' new, but I don't know how time and sitting still affects them. The a/c doesn't work--an issue here in Texas--but other than (obviously) now needing a new battery, the engine ran great when last used. She has a pretty good oil leak that would have been one of the next things I dealt with had I kept driving her. The interior is clean, but a bit sunfaded (red does that). There's a little fist-sized damage spot in the headliner.
I love this little truck, and I'd love to keep her. But I don't have the disposable income to put into it right now. Do I continue to let her sit here, unused and aging, or do I part with her and hope she finds someone who will love her like I do, and have more money to spend? And how much is she worth? Anything, really? Or is she better served as a donation to charity?
I'm hoping for some input from others who'll appreciate her, but not be emotionally involved like I am! <smile>
Thanks,
MB
