Noticed idle was running high for like a week, then the temp gauge was close to red lining. Got it home turned it off let it cool down, it took a lot of water. Ran fine ,idle back to normal. Fine for like a week. Went to breakfast five miles down the road. Coolant dripping heavy from botton hose at engine. Gage read hot, got it home same deal. Added water runs fine. No overheating. What is going out?

Yo Jnt4fr,

Welcome!

Is the bottom hose leaking?

Try drying suspect leak places off, puff baby powder on thosE places and general area.

Suspect places:

Damaged radiator. (miesk5 note, plastic side seams often leak overnight and/or while engine cools down))

Damaged water pump.

Loose/damaged radiator hoses.

Loose/damaged heater water hoses.

Damaged heater core.

Damaged engine gaskets.

Damaged radiator coolant recovery reservoir.

Internal engine coolant leak.

To help pin point the leak, use a Radiator cap /coolant system Pressure Tester from local parts store under their loan a tool program.

If engine oil is evident on vehicles with an engine oil cooler, REMOVE engine oil cooler and INSPECT for damage. REPLACE if damaged.

If engine oil is evident on vehicles without engine oil cooler or if oil cooler checks out OK, REMOVE cylinder head and INSPECT for leaking head gasket and head or block cracks.

If transmission oil is evident, replace transmission oil cooler in radiator as outlined in this section and check condition of transmission oil as outlined in this section.

next time, please fill out Signature with year, engine/tranny/Xfer case/hub type info & major mods such as a Lift, etc. for better responses.
