so, when i start my Bronco in the morning, it starts right up no problem. Later in the day though, it rattles when I start it. once the rpm's go down, the rattling stops. i think it's a lifter? but i'm not sure. what can i do to fix this rattle?

Hard to say without more info.

There are days my truck shifts through all gears so smooth you cant feel it. Other days rough it clunks. Other days (most the time) smooth through all gears except OD it clunks into.

Sometimes its just the nature of the beast..

Welcome to the Zone > . Definitely not enough information to give any kind of guess. How about adding your truck vitals to your signature. Just click on your user ID and it will take you to your profile. From there you can edit and add the information like Year, engine, tranny, transfer case, gearing, etc.

Just a suggestion, take a short piece of hose and use it like a stethoscope. Hold one end to your ear while you move the hose around the engine until you hear where the noise is loudest. The problem you are talking about could be almost anything.

Good luck,

:)>-

yo B*,

I use a garden hose section or gift wrap cardbd. tube to use as a stethoscope to help track noise location.

BEWARE of FAN, Belts, Pulleys and hot engine components.

Is the Check Engine Light Lit?

If so; have it scanned for Codes for free at a parts store.

This is what a dealer would test for aside for listening.

Wow Fred! We're in tune again!

BroncoStar;

I finally found this in my old MS WORD notes and an on-line source

Altho it doesn't fit your description exactly, it is a possible noise source;

Knocking Noise May Occur when Engine is Cold and under Acceleration could be coming from the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump TSB 96-7-27 for 95-96 Bronco, Econoline & F Series

Verify the knock noise is coming from the AIR Pump and install the correct AIR Pump Service Kit for the application. Refer to the following diagnosis and service procedures for details.

Test drive the vehicle cold. The knock noise is most noticeable while the engine is under load at approximately 1500 rpm. The concern may be verified on automatic transmission-equipped vehicles by first setting the parking brake, and with the wheels chocked, starting the engine and placing the vehicle in gear. Verify the knock noise is coming from the AIR Pump by using a technician’s stethoscope while the engine speed is approximately 1500 rpm.

THE NEW AIR PUMP IS ORIENTED IN A POSITION 180 DEGREES OPPOSITE TO THE PRODUCTION AIR PUMP.

Install the specified AIR Pump Service Kit for each application using the following charts:

1995 F-SERIES UNDER 8500 LBS GVWR, BRONCO, AND CALIFORNIA F-SERIES

I.S.

Qty. Part Number Description Kit Number Number

1 F6TE-9A486-FA Air Pump F5PZ-9A486-LB 6834

1 F5TE-9S476-JA Hose - Air Pump-To-Outlet Tube

1 F5TE-9S449-CA Hose - Air Cleaner-To-Air Pump

1 F2TE-9H447-AA Clamp - Hose-To-Tube

see Link for more Charts

Doesn't sound like a lifter to me. A lifter is most likely to make noise on the first start of the day. They seldom, in my experience, make noise when the engine is warm. I agree with the comments about the air pump.
