i'm having a problem with my e4od, i've replaced all the sensors at it still shifts erratically mostly when its hot, also when it sits in a parking lot and it's hot out i'll get in and take off and have to shift it manually. i've been told that it is probably the brain by a transmission shop but nobody seems to know where it is, everybody points to the kick panel on the drivers side, i do not see it. any help in finding it would be apprieciated. also if any body else has experienced this problem and found a solution please write back. Thank You Rick Moreton

Right, the "copmuter" behind the kick panel controls both the engine and E4OD tranny. Any problems with the motor will affect the tranny, and the cooling for the fluid is done by the radiator. Check for any overheating problems, like burnt fluid. $1400 for an overhaul is not bad at all, as it can be as much as $3000. Excessive heat will **** this model faster than most, but there are many upgrades that help.

i know this was an old post but i wanted to reply anyway. iwas told by a ford tech who also has the same year f150 as mine that the problem is also has to do with the throttle body butterflies being gummed up on the back of them, and on the side is a single plug valve that also gets gummed up. clean them both up and it takes care of a whole **** of a lot of engine and tranny problems.
