We haven't used the rear tailgate for a couple years.  I just replaced the tailgate latch mechanism.  Now the rear window will not go down.  I have tried the key switch on the tailgate and the switch on the dash...

...any thought or suggestions....

Thanks!

I hooked the motor up directly to a deer feeder battery and it works fine so the window motor is NOT the issue....I believe there is a "switch" that  ensured the tailgate is closed before it will allow you to raise or lower the window....where is it and how can I check it.....

Welcome to the Zone!!

You say it will not go down, but when you have it down via the jumper, will it go up via the switch?   Also note the driver switch must be in the center position in order for the tailgate switch to work.

You are correct about the switch.  It is in the left hand latch.  Close the gate and press on the left side when you are trying to operate the window.  If it works you need to adjust the position of the stud that the latch locks on to.  You can also pull the connector at the switch and jumper it out to see if the window will work, but you have to have the gate down and window in the up position to get at it.

A lot of people have bypassed that switch and assume the responsibility of making sure the tailgate is fuly closed before operating the window.  The advantage to that is that you can operate the window for maintenance when the gate is down.  If you do that, then you need to support the window when it is in the up position and make sure it is retracted before shutting the tailgate. In other words you become the safety switch.

There are other possibilities but try this first and let us know the result.

Here is the electrical diagram for the tailgate motor, http://broncozone.com/topic/15889-tailgate-wiring-diagram/?hl=tailgate  Also go the the HowTo section of the forum and search on tailgate, you will get several hits, this being one of them.

The window will neither open or close with either switch....the deer feeder battery ran it up and down just fine so I do believe it is the safety switch....

I took the Bronco back to my son this morning....he will be home for Christmas break in a few days and we will dig into it then...I will be researching the threads in the "how to" section as well as the one you linked to...

Thank you for your assistance!

OK, another common failure is a broken wire or corroded connector, (the two shown in the electrical diagram), mainly the one that is located on the left side of the rear tub support.  Like I said before, the ground for the tailgate system is under the dash via the driver switch.  Each switch has a seperate voltage supply so unless two fuses are blown the problem is most likely the safety switch or the ground line.
