Hi All,

 I am stuck in a bit of a situation... I need to buy a reman ECM for my bronco... the problem I am finding is, that I can not use the old one for a part number or reference, and I can not use the VIN because I did a motor swap from a 5.0 to a 5.8. I used all of the existing 5.0 injectors, harness, basically everything and stuck it on the 5.8l I was told it was all interchangeable.

The truck runs like garbage at idle (this engine ran great in the pickup I pulled it from). SO everyone is saying I need to change the ECM. (the one from the old truck isn't the right number because it was 2WD, no 4W ABS, etc.)

All of the places I call (including part stores) say I need to find the right code to get the correct ECM

So I am trying to find out what that would be...

these are the choices:

F4TF-SA

F4TF-SB

F4TF-SC

F4TF-TA

F4TF-TB

F4TF-TC

I have a 1994 Bronco, 4W ABS, E40D, standard emissions, AC/ PS/ PB/ EFI, with the electric shift for the transfer case (instead of the manual lever).

I am basically being told that the ECM will be programmed based on the options (such as the 4WABS vs RWAL, the electric shift for the transfer case instead of manual, etc.)

So not sure what to do here, and looking for advice, or at the best, the correct part number to order.

Any help at all, will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

yo N,

For now; will bbl. I see that you know most of the following;

EFI 5.0L to EFI 5.8L swap by Ryan M @ http://web.archive.org/web/20070710100333/http://www.fullsizebronco.com/forum/vbarticles.php?do=article&articleid=7

"Computer - You must get a 5.8L computer from a truck just like your 5.0L. If you have a E4OD transmission you must get a 351 computer from an E4OD truck. You should be able to get this off a junkyard truck just like the intake. Just don't get one that was on a flood damaged vehicle ;)"

Next is; "think the only way you'll be able to pin down the exact correct computer would be to find a MAF 5.8 truck with E4OD and steal the computer. JK if you could get the VIN off such a truck or read the numbers off the computer you could match one up. Nobody can tell me if the computer they sell if MAF or SD. The all want a part number or VIN." by swat

I would look for one that has same options as yours such as E4OD, ESOF shit on fly xfer case;

CA or Federal Emissions, etc.

For a YARD SEARCH on-line, I use;

http://www.hollanderparts.com/

Select All Parts

year, etc, then FORD TRUCK

A Hollander affiliated yard can use the search engine and have it shipped to you; our local yard does have $ back return policy for these older Parts"

I see that Hollander does list those suffixes; so search for Transmission > Transfer Case Assembly > ****** output, electric shift

or

http://www.copartfinder.com/finder/searchMake.do

Has Vehicle Pics!

http://car-part.com/

http://www.picknpull.com

This is a Company name w/yard locations in various states

Also for obsolete parts by Ford Part Number long version

http://www.partsvoice.com/

http://www.rearcounter.com

http://www.greensalescompany.com

EEC Program Codes by Ryan M @ http://web.archive.org/web/20130819045123/http://oldfuelinjection.com/?p=17

The firing order is 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8. for the 94 5.0 or 5.8

That's a good question.... I was doing some more research, and I am not sure if its MAF or SD... the truck is at the repair shop (who refused to work on it), until this evening when I can go get it...

I believe its based on production date, but I wont know that until I pick it up. Does it mean I will have to pull the ECM out to see, or is there an easier way to tell?

Thanks sooooo sooo much for all the tips so far.

Jus trying to get my baby on the road again... the fresh 5.8 should be a screamer!

yo N,

Sorry that I couldn't get back here yesterday.

See if your 94 has the MAF Sensor next to air filter box.

dsc01673.jpg

Pic by Tim C - attached next to K&N open filter,=.

Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor

Gasoline Engines

The mass air flow sensor (MAF sensor) (12B579) is located between the engine air cleaner (ACL) (9600) and the throttle body (9E926). The mass air flow sensor uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. Air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool. The mass air flow sensor then outputs an analog voltage signal to the powertrain control module (PCM) (12A650) to determine the intake air mass. The powertrain control module will calculate the required fuel injector pulse width in order to provide the desired air/fuel ratio.

The mass airflow sensor electronics module body element and housing are calibrated as a unit and must be serviced as a complete assembly.

CAUTION: Sensing elements located in the mass airflow sensor should not be tampered with or cleaned.

miesk5 Note; many do clean the sensor w/CRC MAF Cleaner spray.

Those with K&N filters have been Known to over-oil the filters thus causing an issue; K&N now claims this is not true, but some of us know the real deal.

yo OK!

to help narrow the yard search down;

I am very sure that All the Emission Components and vacuum lines are the Same for 94 5.0 with MAF and a 5.8 w/MAF.

So that will help when pulling from a yard queen by narrowing down the hunt and selection processes.

The only differences that I recall came in 96 when the 5.8 did not come with the Secondary Air Injection Sys. (smog pump, TAD/TAB solenoids and valves, air tube to cat, etc.); but the 5.o had all that stuff.

Next is 4WABS; all 93-96 came with 4WABS

ESOF Xfer Case; easy to see either its electric push button or manual shifter type

CA built or Federal Emissions;

Do you have Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) Decal atop radiator support?

It will show if the 94 was built iaw Calif or Federal Emissions (or Canadian)

VECI decal in a 94 5.0

Here is Decal showing "This vehicle conforms to U.S. EPA and California regulations..."

btw, I haven't see any CALIF vs Federal Decal differences other than the verbage.

Well i guess we can close this question... I had a mechanical issue with the intake manifold gasket... (had an exhaust leak at the crossover)... i changed the gasket, and then after letting the truck run a bit and get up to temperature it all of a sudden just started running correctly... .like the computer figured out what to do... was very strange.

I did some further research, and am being told that the ECM for 5.0/5.8 wont matter on a MAF system because it will compensate... it seems to have figured it out.

Anyway, truck is running like a dream now.

Thank you so much for the help and references!!!!

YO,

Go to Magic Used Auto

Store 1

Magic Used Auto

3999 118th Ave North Clearwater, FL 33762

Give them all the info for the 5.0 (using all criteria you provided here; E4OD, Fed Emission, 4WABS; ESOF Xfer Case

Have them look for one is 94 Bronco With 5.8 and tell them that the old PCM part number isn't working well.

Ensure $ back guarantee.

If they can't find one, ask them to put out a search request.

When I was seeking my 96's DPFE sensor, some yards as well as parts stores wanted the original Ford part numer; of course, I didn't have or see one marked on the sensor; so I found out through a forum that the 5.0 was different from the 5.8; so asked local Hollander yard just to find one in a 96 5.0 with Fed Emissions and #### the part number bs.
