I just bought a 1990 bronco off of e-bay. The truck runs good (motor is strong). I drove it from New Jersey to North Carolina. The truck has a few issues that I need advice on.

I have push button 4wd that will not engage. If I get under the vechile and turn the drive shaft from transmission to transfer case, the shafts to both front wheels turn. THat makes me think that the problem is electrical rather than mechanical (possibly the swich, motor, or a sensor). Any suggestions on how to diagnose?

I have an auto trans. w/ OD (AOD I think). It shifts good through all gears but the downshift from overdrive to drive is HARD (very hard). It doesn't have any other downshift problems. It runs and shifts perfectly if the trans. is put in drive instead of OD. This is how I drove home from NJ. Is this a sensor or adjustment problem or something major?

My rear window will only go down about 3 inches. The motor operates and so I'm thinking it's an allignment issue. Any suggestions? Thanks.

the rear window may just need the track greased. the window slides on a rail and that rail gets dry. it may be an alighnment issue, but greasing the slides would be a great place to start.... just a thought

If the motor on the rear windo keeps running after the window stops, it's probably the gear/bushing. About a $15-$20 fix.

The most common problem with the automatic 4wd is the hubs not locking. Check that. Also, when you push the button, you do drive it a little first right? It needs to be driven a few feet for the hubs to lock and 4wd to engage if I remember correctly.

Check the 4WD switch to make sure it's not burnt or a wire isn't loose. Make sure all the wiring is connected properly.

My 90 Bronco has an E40D tranny, so that's probably what your's is.

My rear window is doing the same thing. My dad thinks the striker bolts need to be adjusted in the tailgate so it will shut tighter and the tracks will line up better. Haven't tried it yet but I will let you know when I do.

Also another suggestion is to buy a Haynes or Chiltons repair manual for it. I know Autozone sells them. They run about $15. They are great to have handy when working on it.
