I have a problem with my 89 Bronco. 5.0L auto OD. Problem is it will not start when in the morning when the temperature is below 55F. I can get it to start with starting fluid when it is around 55-45F, much below that and the bronco will not start. If I do get it to start, it will usually stay running, sometime it will die after a few seconds, then I can ususally restart it with no starting fluid and it will stay running. After I get it to start once int he morning, I can start it all day with no issues.

The codes I get when i checked them were 21 and 24, Intake temp sensor out of range and coolant temp sensor out of range. Replaced both sensors, no different, still won't start. Do I need to disconnect the battery and clear the codes?

I have replaced the distributor, cap rotor, TFI module, coil, and plugs (another issue about a month earlier).

I have checked fuel pressure during cranking, it is around 40 psi. When the car starts and runs it drops to around 30.

can anyone help? This is my plow truck, so it needs to start in the cold...thanks

I'm not an expert on the codes but I think in a discussion I had on here a while back it was mentioned that to clear the codes you have to disconnect the power/battery.

That is a strange problem. If it's hot outside, 75F, do you still need to use starting fluid?

chuckles, thanks.

No I do not have to use starting fluid if it is 70F or warmer outside
