Hello I have an 88 FS with 351 that i am changing the fuel tank in. The tank that I pulled out has the small hole sending unit with 3 wire plug. The tank i have for it is out of a 90 FS, not sure on the motor size, but it has the large hole sendin unit with 4 wires going to the plug. Does any one know what the fourth wire is for on the new tank? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and if anyone knows what the difference in the large and small sending unit is would help my curiosity because the old one is so rusted it wont come out.

yo!

Have to get on da road right now...maybe someone else can add to this for you;

Don't know of anyone doing this yet; mainly due to DIFF in Gallons per Hour and PSI between the 88 and 90 Pumps

88 has 2 pumps, in-line, driver side fram rail and in-tank,,,your prob now.. 3 wires are; yellow/white for fuel level sender; pink/black for 12v to pump & black for GROUND, right?

90 has just da in-tank pump; 4 wires are:

yellow/white for fuel level sender

black for fuel level sender GROUND

pink/black for 12v to pump

orange for pump ground

diff is... I'm rushing & lost the diagram pages,,,the 88 shares ground for both sender and pump motor

diff in tank hole is da FP/sender size.

Oh yeah.... so since the 90 is a high pressure pump, should i just remove the old low pressure pump on the frame and run new lines?

yo sorry was away, then woke up to find a slashed tire..whole neighborhood was hit.. about 25 vehicles

you can do it this is = to your yr and FI system but in a 4 door door Bronco Centurion. Iggie any dual tanks references..

Single Pump Conversion in an 89 Centurion Source: by Traveler

If you need to remove the lock ring for any reason on replacement tank, use a dollar store BRASS bruch to clean area off, then a BRASS punch/chisel to remove ring..

GL!

YW!

ok, GL!

In case you need a new fuel regulator to adjust pressure (just a wa guess it may be a prob) think about an Accufab or BBK adjustable reg.

Mainly guessing that the pumps & reg in your Bronco provide about 16 gallons/min

and the 90 in-tank pump delivers about 27 gals/min @ about 38-40 PSI

Well now that my weekend duty is done, and the craziness at my normal job is slowing down, I was able to get the tank wired and mounted with success. At this point I haven't removed the frame mounted pump or jumped around it. It works but I'm not sure if running the two high pressure pumps will create a problem or not I'm hoping to have more time daylight and alot warmer weather to play with her this weekend.

Great.. good job!

I know that some folks upgraded the later year (90-96) pumps from 125LPH (around 27 GPH) - 255LPH (around 65 GPH) w/no problemos except; "...And I notices when i went to release the fuel pressure to do the fuel pump which was right after I drove it on the hoist, there was no pressure just a couple drips. The first think I noticed after I did the swap was the pump doesn't kick on when I first turn the key, I got in a habit of waiting for the pump to stop before I cranked the engine over..."

I don't think that will happen for you though.
