I have an 88 bronco w/ a 6" skyjacker lift and 35" Mickey Tires and manual locking hubs. Bought it last december and have had absolutely not trouble with it until this week.

Last friday I hit a speed bump a bit hard and a popping noise in the front end started when I was at low speeds. Then it went away. Last night while driving it started up again with a new twist, when the pop could be heard, it would pull hard to the right. Because the e-brake sometimes doesn't engage, I pulled over and thought maybe it hadn't released fully. I tried to engage it and it wouldn't, so I cycled through applying and pulling the release a few times until it would engage each time. Got back on the road and the pop was still there, still pulling. Even at times sounding like plbbbbbbbt pop!

I pulled over at the nearest convenience store and looked for anything obviously wrong and couldn't find anything (although admittedly i'm not all that knowledgeable). I checked the oil and it was incredibly low despite no light being on. I added 3 quarts and let it cool down. Cranked and idled the truck after a bit, drove around the parking lot and the pop was gone. Drove fine the rest of the night and today until this evening when it started again.

It doesn't seem related to the brakes or turning. It happens at speed in different gears. No trouble shifting or lack of power.

I've seen lots of posts about this issue when related to braking or turning, but not anything that really relates to whats going on with my truck. Any help would be most appreciated.

Turns out it was the wheel bearings. The wobble in the wheels also tore up the rotors on the brakes. All in all, not too big of a deal but quite annoying. When the mechanic tested the play in the passenger wheel, it damn near came off.

Just glad I got it taken care of when I did. Could have been ugly.

Glad you survived it.

Good luck,
