Hi fellow Bronco fanatix. Just got my 1st 4WD, '88 B11 XLT, 2-tone brown, 2.9litre V-6, 5-spd,a/c, p/s, p/b, p/dlocks/windows, original custom wheels. will be needing some replacement parts as time goes on. First thing I'm doing is clean the beast,, engine bay is coated with brown mud , going to hose it down good then use Simple Green cleaner,, that stuff works good,,doesn't leave a film like other engine cleaners I've used. It runs great,, no clicking, knocks, thumps when started. But 1 thing bothers me--as the oil gets warmed, the added-on oil gage goes down to round 10lbs from 60 cold. Could be a bad gage so I'm goin to put in a direct-reading gage on motor. Or it could be the sending unit. Also, the idiot light doesn't come on when reading of gage is 10lb. Maybe this is 'normal' for this motor but I want to make sure of pressure anyway. Could be thin oil too, so I'm going to drain and put in 10W30 and change filter. There's a few cosmetic things I gotta do also, clean interior, etc. Also going to grease fittings, check tran case, tranny & rear-end, Need a set of tires also,, I like Wranglers and Hankook has some good ones too. Anxious to get this where I can go out and have some fun in north Texas camping/fishing/chillin. Later my friends..Larry

Welcome to the Zone > . Post some pictures when you get a chance. Being an older engine with worn mains, I run 20W50 in mine since the pressure drops below 10psi on 10W30. I've been running with a Baldwin filter, 5 qt of 20W50 and a quart of Lukas stabilizer. Ever since I did that 2 years ago, I have had no pressure problems. Rule of thumb, about 10psi per 1000 RPM is OK. On long road cruises mine stays at about 25psi which is close to the rule of thumb number since I'm turning about 2200 RPM. Mine varies from about 50psi cold to 25psi hot when idling hot it drops to around 10psi. If you are not hearing any valve noise when idling hot you probably are doing just fine.

Gee tnx Seabronc for the welcome and info on oil pressure. I was really concerned about that and glad you cleared it up for me. But I'm still going to drain oil and flush pan, add new oil, 20w50 as you suggest, change oil/air filters. It does get hot here in Texas, 115F this past summer for 2 mths & down to maybe 80F @ night which was an unusually hot summer. Will post pix asap. I did get a Chilton's book at AutoZone already. Have to get a battery as the 1 in it doesn't hold a charge, also a windshield but thats no big thang as it passed state/emissions inspection just last wk. just 2 of the items on my 'To do/get' list. I know I'm gonna luv 'working' and 'playing' with this 4x4 as I've never had 1. My other trk is a grn '02 Shebolay short bed, reg.cab, 4.3 auto, a/c, cruise/towing package/ bed liner, etc. with 157K on the 'clock'. Going to try and get 300K on it too as I take care of it and always someone wanting to borrow it and I do as long as they don't wreck it and replace the gas they use plus 10gals,, seems fair to me anyway(I re-set the trip odometer so I'll know how far they went also). Gotta get to 'work' on it now,, Later,,,Larry

Welcome to the zone!
Bronc76,, thank you also so for the warm welcome. Im having so much fun with this toy. always wanted 1 and I saw this 1 last summer at a old car lot, it had been sitting for at least 2 yrs, 2 flat way over-sized tires, dirty, lonely sitting there with no other 4wheelers to play with and needing a good home with someone who could get it bad to good health and out playing again. 2 of my buddies called me crazy when they saw it in my driveway but I told them well your just jealous cause you dont have 1 and I never had a 4wd and decided to get 1. I post some pix later but I want to get my new toy all cleaned up, oil change, etc. and ready to play again out in the north texas woods. later Larry

If you haven't figured out how to change your password, here it is:

1. click on your user ID at the top right of the screen

2. click on my settings

3. click on change password at the left side of the screen

4. it should be pretty obvious from there.

Good luck,

:)>-
