1897 Ford Bronco 4x4, EFI.

What gives with this crappy locking hub, I have one that needs to be replaced and cannot find anywhere accept ford dealerships that have anything to go there. No aftermarket parts avail is there.

And the price, OMG just for one the dealership wants $200 after discount.

Is there any Aftemarket Locking hubs that I could get to replace this waste of metal thats on there now. Im sure you guys know which one Im talking about. Its the only year I have see that had this type of locking hub and I dont want it if I can help it.

Is there anything I can do short of doing an axle swap.

I've got a stock set of the hubs your looking for. I'll sell 'em both for $80 shipped to ya. Just email me if your interested.

I *think* you can buy a a kit from warn that will convert your axle to recieve the "standard" hubs then buy new hubs. the conversion kit is about 55 at advance auto. the hubs are around 70.

email is [email protected]

Wow  , that must be a real classic Bronco, one of the early model huh? :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> Henry's cars sure did a lot of off roading, since ther wern't many then.)

Sorry, couldn't help myself

seabronc, i don't think you understand. In '87 the engineers came up with a "brilliant" idea of a hub that was only held on by the wheel. it was only used for one year. making it rather rare. all the others use regular style bolt in lockout hubs.

heres the ones we're talkin about:

http://broncograveyard.com/products/cat/20/159/32122

even more expensive than buying it from ford

You are right, I was confused, I was thinking of converting auto's to manuals.

Well, you could totally convert to the 80 - 96 (except 87 ) hub arrangement. It would cost a lot more but that is the last time you would have to deal with the 87 style. There is another thread in this forum on that not more than a week old.

So if that is not an option for you, it looks like Ford is the place to go.

Good luck,

Hit up a Pick N' Pull Junkyard and grab the WHOLE front end of a 89 to 91 I think. I have an early 88 and the same damn problem.. Ford used these useless hubs for a whole WHOPPING year.. Brilliant idea.. I bet you could get a front end (rotors, hubs, etc) alot cheaper then buying "new" hubs for it.. That is gonna be what I am doing..then upgrade to the better aftermarket warn hubs.

It may be in your best interest to swap knuckles with a later model Bronco.

ford used those pieces of garbage in 87-88.5 model bronco and f-150s. you'll need everything from teh knuckles out to swap it over to normal hubs.

KG4OFQ, that part you linked to isn't the right thing for the conversion. Thats for a solid d44 frontend. You just want the conversion kit that warn makes. You can find it on advanced auto's website.

the hubs in question are from late 87 to early 88 and yes they **** the ones at the dealer are get this the wrong ones they claim that they fit 77 thru 91 when i called for my 88 almost as if ford is trying to forget the whole idea

i went to a local scrap yard and found a set off a 90 both complete knuckle outs for 90 bucks figure for the most part the only thing that goes bad is the hub then ok fine another 60 at the most and your gold again

my question is first when i look at the blow up of mine and the "normal" type the hub spindle and rotor look the same so what gives also the kit from bronco graveyard is for pretty much every thing (even ball joints) what if mine are new already? is there a way to buy just what i need? b-(

i didn't need a conversion kit when i swapped out my auto hubs for manual hubs. i had auto locking hubs on my 87 bronco and swapped them out for a set of warn premium locking hubs. i got my manual locking hubs from advance auto parts for $85. i have a link around here somewhere or i can get it again if anyone needs it. let me know.

You probably have a late 86/VERY early 87 or something. Or , maybe Ford didn't mess with the auto locking hubs on the 87, and they are the same. I saw an 87 with locking hubs and well., nevermind, The auto hubs would have to be different then the shit 87-88.5 hubs, Sorry , resolved it myself. >
