Hi All

Time to replace the factory radio/cassette unit in my '87 BII. I have no idea how to get at the radio - it does not appear to have the four holes for DIN tool removal. Does anyone know how to get this unit out? It looks like I need to remove at least the plastic "woodgrain" panel of the dash (Eddie Bauer), but I can't locate any screws for this.

(I did a search on this forum, and found a radio removal description (by Nuttin' But) for an '84 BII, but it said that radio removal changed significantly for the following years.)

Also, has anyone used the wiring harness and installation bracket "kits" available for radio replacement? These are $17 each at PEP BOYS, and I'm wondering if they are worth the investment.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

you will have to remove the dash trim to get the radio out. start off with the thin trim around the ashtray, being careful not to pull the wires out. you will also have to take the one off that has the headlight **** on it. just pull it off slow, then turn it so that it faces down and you can turn off the lights. there should be some brackets with 4 "tamper proof" bolts. it's just a star pattern with a pin in the center. you can get the tool at any autoparts store. the rest is easy. no adapter needed.
