MY 87 BRONCO TRANS. WON'T SHIFT. WHEN I PUT IT IN GEAR IT ACTS LIKE IT MAY BE IN SECOND OR A HIGHER GEAR, NOT ALOT OF POWER, AND IT WON'T SHIFT OUR OF THAT GEAR. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A VACUUM PROBLEM, BUT I CAN'T FIND THE VAC LINE GOING TO THE TRANS. ALSO THOUGHT IT COULD BE THE TV CABLE, BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO MESS WITH IT UNTIL I TALK TO SOME OF YA'LL. A LIL HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. THANKS, GOOB

it could be the governor on the tailshaft of the transmission i had one go bad in an AOD before there is a little valve inside that allows the fluid to pass through and shift if it gets stuck then it will not allow fluid to pass therefor no shifting...its not exactly the easiest of fixes but it wouldnt hurt to take a couple of hours one day take it apart and inspect it...it involves dropping both driveshafts, transfer case..jack the transmission up on the transmission pan, remove the tailshaft housing (6 bolts if i remember correclty) inside you will see the tailshaft with a governor on it (looks like a chunk of aluminum with counter weight on it) there is a c-clip on there you have to remove and it will just slide off..also if you do it there is a little ball on there (cant remember if its a checkball or ballbearing either way its there) rotate the tailshaft until the ball is up this way when you take the governor off the ball wont fall out if the governor is in good condition the valve inside should move freely just shake the governor or turn it upside down couple times see if it moves or not...good luck

yo!

Also

From a TS Guide I saves awhile ago in WORD;

"Late, harsh, or no shift:

TV pressure too high - check and adjust

Governor stuck or dragging - clean governor

Valve body problem - replace valve body"

TV Brass Bushing "...are known to have problems with TV cable adjustment, and it's often due to the original rubber bushing cracking & falling out while driving, which normally destroys the transmission in a couple of miles. But it's so common that Ford makes this upgraded brass bushing (see pic for Ford part number), which is cheap (~$10) & easy to install..."
