hey guys my dad has an 86 bronco II he is restoring and every day he tries to take it out almost to the minute as soon as the engine starts getting warm its starts acting weird...like spuddering or stalling

now everything below is a list that is brand new on the truck

-fuel pump

-fuel tank

-air filter

-oil and filter

-fuel injectors

-o2 sensors

i have thought about it and i think it might be either a mass air sensor or an air temp sensor...what do you guys think? i wish i knew more than what he has told me about the problems but i moved to florida from stl this year....so all i can do is help over the phone which is frustrating

***so the problem is when the engine starts getting hot....it acts up****

thanks and if you think you know what the problem might be....can you please give me a website where i can buy one from (have not been able to find an online store that sells a mass air flow sensor for an 86' bronco II yet)

thanks guys!

I know you say the O2 sensor is new, but tell him to simply disconnect it and see if the problem is still there.

Also, I think most of these types of problems are related to vacuum leaks. He should immediately replace the PCV valve, and then thoroughly and completely check every vacuum hose and connection for loose fitting and leaks. The vacuum hose diagram for your vehicle should be on a sticker under the hood.

Be sure that your o2 sensor is grounded. it sounds like it acts up as it comes out of the warm up cycle. Also check all of the relays by tapping them gently on top. they are on the pass side over the tire well . G.

I have an 1986 bronco 2 with a 2.9v6 in it, it does the same thing. That is when the engine warms to its normal temputure it if idled and or under moderate to heavy loading the engine will sputter, loss up to 85% of its power and die. this is far less likely to occur on cold days ( sub 50 degress ) and will likely on those day run for extended periods of time even at idle. but i can still feel it missing at the engine temputures indicated above it just that its almost unnoticable. i have replaced the following

pressure regulator

plugs

plug wires

stater ( its and ing. module ) 2 times they seem to go through these at quite a pace when the distrubtor gets hot!

cap

rotor

fuel filter

the pump has been checked at temputures of cold and warm, although on a 60 degree day

throttle position sensor

cat. converter

muffler and tailpipe

thermostat

( by the way i am a service manager) or think i am, lol

to get to the basic i have found that the fuel lines on the drivers side or left side of the motor get rather hot when the engine is warm and after lifting the hood on one occation and blowing cold compressed air on them it restarted Imeditally?

hmm could it be a vapor lock? it seems as if its starving for fuel i am currently making a insulated heat shield from a acura mdx cat. converter ( its a 2 piece and im using the lower half) to shroud the lines from the exhaust heat. i will repost if it works and have the time

let me know if any of you others have come to this conclusion...

how about the EGR valve I believe they don't start working until it warms up, you can block them off by putting a seal of some sorts in them and if it runs better that's them problem, also the EGR valve sensor, the little sensor hooked to the EGR valve can be bad.
