hey guys i've got a 82 bronco. the carb is rusted and i've got sevral 2bbl ford carbs. the question is will they work? i know they will prolly have to be dialed in but will they run it? there are vaccum lines unplugged and i'm unaware of where they go. also would it matter if the carb came off of an auto or manual? i've heard about a vaccum line that goes to the trans for an auto and if it isn't plugged up it wont run quite right.

if someone has a pic of there carb hooked up could they possibly post a pic for me to go by?

thanks in advance.

No it doesn't matter if it comes off an auto or manual. The vacuum line to the transmission hooks to the main vacuum tree, not the carb. The vacuum line to the distributor hooks to a port that is located near the top right side of the carb, (as looking at it from the inside of the truck). As long as the carb you are using has CFM rating that is sufficient for the engine at full bore, it should work, linkage may be a problem. As long as you can start and keep the engine running, you can then adjust the idle mixture for best operation and then set the curb (hot) idle.

Good luck,

:)>-

thanks for the reply! not to sound stupid or anything but how to i know the cfm rating of the carb?

all i know about the bronco is it has ranchero shocks a 351w and its been sitting for sevral years. the previous owner never got it running right. im assuming bc the timing advance vaccum line with a few others was not connected.

Well if you know the carb model and manufacturer it should be something a search on the net would get hits on. Also, if you post it here, with a couple of pictures it may be identifiable by one of the forum members. Post a picture of your engine also.

Go to My Controls at the top of this page and click, then on the left side find edit signature, enter your truck info.

Good luck,

:)>-

i think the carb came off a 289 or 302. i belive it's an autolite 2100 the only numbers i found on it were C2AF AF. the carb with the ********* dot is the one i pulled from the bronco. the weather took a toll on it as you can tell ^_^

sorry for so many pics lol.

To be honest with you, I wouldn't use the second carb. The reason being it is old and probably needs a rebuild. So If you were to do a rebuild then I'd use the original carb unless it is damaged. Better yet would be to get a new carb since a rebuild kit doesn't address all problems that develop in an old carb like worn parts that cause vacuum leaks. With a stock V8 a 450 CFM carb would be plenty for normal usage.

Good luck,

:)>-
