My friend has an 85 Bronco with the 8.8 rearend. The rearend ran low on oil a couple years ago and it's gotten noisier since. Anyway, he has asked me to set new gears in the 8.8 for him. I looked at the service manual today and noticed that Ford recommends replacing the tone ring when replacing the ring and pinion. Can't the old tone ring be reused? [-o<

Yes it can.

It is only a recommendation.

I see no reason to do it unless it is damaged.
