74 Bronco turn signal

When I slow down or come to a stop with the turn signal on, the signal slows down and some times will stop blinking all together, thats when I need the signal most. Anyone had that problem? How did you correct it?

Hey RN,

Sounds like a flasher. Try swapping the turn flasher with the 4way, to be sure.

Very little info to go on... (what vehicle.?)

Does it do this at idle in the garage..? How 'bout eng. runn'n signals on, & step on the brakes..?

Did you check your voltage at the battery.., eng. on & off...?

302 Auto, signals work fine until I slow down, and at idle they will slow down and sometimes stop blinking. I was told at a parts store it was the voltage at idle, but it check at correct voltage. He said that it was common in fords of that year for the blinkers to slow down at idle. I have replaced the blinker relay that looks like a small canister to see if it would help, it did'nt.

It's tough to help with vague info....

A wild guess would be a burnt diode in the alternator...., or a dead bat. cell.

Hey RN,

If you replaced the flasher and still have the problem try this: With the truck in neutral or park and idling watch the flashes. Increase the engine speed slightly. If the flashes become faster there is a problem with the alternator, or voltage regulator, or the circuit is "searching for ground".

Forget what the guys at the part store said.

First check all your grounds. Battery to engine...battery to frame...battery to body, etc. they have to be clean and tight. Many an electrical problem on these trucks was a problem with grounds.

If that doesn't change anything, 2 things are up:

1- your idle speed is set too low and/or

2- you have an issue with the alternator/ voltage regulator.

It was NOT common for blinkers to slow down on anything other than vehicles that had problems that were not addressed.

Is this the same truck that got the carb rebuild? If so, check the idle speed.
