I have a 73 bronco and had several leaking spots on driveway. I have replaced the valve covers taking care of this oil leak. The only other leak i see is from transmission fluid. I do not know much about fixing up vehicles...just now getting into it. Is there any easy fixes or any kind of 'stop transmission fluid leak' additive that will help fix or slow down the leaking?

Hey 73,

Best thing is to find out where the leak is comming from. A pan gasket is easy. Could also be from the dipstick tube or speedo cable. All pretty easy.

I had a front pump seal seeping a while back. Used some Rislone Trans seal conditioner. Stopped the leak after about 200 miles .

Good Luck.

I think the leak is coming from the pan gasket. How do i replace it? Assuming i just need to unbolt it, remove old gasket, put new one on, and re bolt back on? Im new to repairing cars so could you please explain in dummy terms if there is anything else i need to do  . Would NAPA have this or have to order online?

Hey 73,

Your local parts store should have the service kit, or be able to get it in a few days.

First you need to determine if the leak is indeed from the pan gasket. Your trans probably has the dipstick tube in the side of the pan. That may be the source of the leaak as well. Clean the underside of the engine and trans with engine degreaser.

Let it dry and then drive the truck and let it cool before getting under and looking for the true source of the leak.

Changing the gasket and filter is pretty straight forward. When you get the service kit remember to get the proper trans fluid. You will need about 5 qts of type F fluid.

I attached a pic to help you determine what trans you have.

Good Luck
