I recently replaced the original starter in my 66 with one of the high torque mini starters. It seems to be too close to the flywheel because it continues to turn when the engine is running and it doesn't sound like the bendix shoots forward to start the engine. Has anyone ever shimmed the starter back and is this possible because this mini starter seems to be one piece and the nose piece looks like it can not be changed out.
