5 speed 351???

hey ya'll, i'm shopping broncos, and i owned a 96 that had a 302 with a 5sp. i loved it, and bad luck with automatic transmissions (and kinda a love for manual ones) has got me desiring that third pedal, BUT, i also would prefer the extra power of the 351w. however, the only ones with standard transmissions i've seen are 302s, and i briefly read over the "engines/transmissions" post i found on here, and that seems to be the norm. that "mazda 5-speed" or whatever it was says that it only goes with the 300, 302 engine. is there any way around this?

oh yeah, just to clarify...i have found 351s with manual transmissions, but not with overdrive...and usually with a granny gear. THIS WILL BE A DRIVER. i do a lot of highway driving, and not much rock crawling. i go offroad for work purposes, but i don't wheel the thing. i will also be towing an occasional trailer.

so just so sum-up: did they make (stock) a bronco with a 351 AND an overdrive manual transmission, or is there an easy swap that if i got one with, say, the e40d, that i could swap in (a t5?)

A good 5-sp manual OD tranny to swap would be the ZF-series (S-42 or S-47) from a F-series truck with the 351W motor. Both 2WD and 4WD vesions were offered, and the 4WD ones are a bit hard to find. It's possible to convert a 2WD one as well. One of the members here did the ZF swap in their Bronco, maybe they'll post up or you'll find them thru search. JSM84

Never saw and others have confirmed in past that the 5.8 didn't come with an overdrive manual tranny. I looked for one in new 95/96 Bronco specs back in the day when we bought our 96 and found none were avail. For instance this 89 Bronco brochure shows no 5.8 was avail with the Manual OD tranny
