I was out at a party on friday in the woods

and when i left i had to go through a ditch to leave and when i was in the middle of the ditch my front tires wouldnt move at all, my 4x4 was engaged in LOW range, they were not blocked or anything they had plenty of space to move but only my rear wheels would move like it was in 2wd. As a result i was stuck in a ditch because my front tires couldnt pull me out of it.

I had to get my friend to pull me out on the other side of the ditch to get me out of the ditch.

I was confused as to why they wouldnt do anything when the 4x4 was engaged

i agree with wileec

i would take the plastic cap off and start taking apart the hub assembly to figure out where the problem is. make sure you have a hub socket to do this job

That is the very reason people change to the manual hubs. If you are not already in 4x4 when you get stuck, the auto hubs will not engage, that is if they work at all. Auto hubs require that you move forward about 10 ft in order to engage.

My recommendation is to convert to manual hubs.

Good luck,

Just had a similar problem, except replace 'ditch' with giant snowbank blocking a local trail...I thought with the 4x4 on it would power through...of course, it would have, had the auto hubs not been shot..lol...replaced with Superwich manuals...good to go.

Auto-hubs make it tough to troubleshoot. Replace them with some Manual hubs, and one it will fix the problem or two we will be able to figure out what is really wrong.
