I have a 1990 bronco 2 4x4 5 speed. Auto locking hubs, push button. The truck will go into 4h and 4l with no problem at all. When the truck is in motion it makes a clicking noise, sounds like its coming from the front. Truck was on a lift and front driveshaft was turned and tires lock but if you were to hold one tire and leave the other free, it sounds like one tire unlocks, and immediatly starts the clicking from the side of the axel where the tire is being held. It pretty much half ass works. You can go up a hill and some instances itll work and others it wont. Any idea what it could be??? Transfer case? Hubs? Front Axel?? Some advise please...

I had a problem that resulted in a simmilar "sound" (clicking auto hubs). I paid a place to replace my rotors and brake pads. They installed the auto hubs incorrectly, causing them to make clicking noises. When i engaged the 4wd, it wouldnt disengage, and ended up snapping a shaft inside the transfer case. I , of course went back raising ****, and got them to give me a $400 refund. I then had to replace my transfer case. My auto hubs were pretty chewed up from the misplaced ****** washers so I replaced them with some manual hubs (Mile Marker from Bronco Graveyard) and they work great. No more clicking.......

If you hear the same clicking sound at each wheel, I think I would have someone look at the Auto hubs. From what the "better mechanic" told me, most people ditch the auto hubs for the manual because they are often troublesome.

4x4 will engage and disengage properly, but it just doesnt lock up maybe 75% of the time.

I know the axle shaft in the 84-89 ranger/bronco II has a smaller axle shaft than the 90-93 ranger/bronco II/explorer. Any idea if the the larger shaft size came with the manual hubs?? Id rather do that than have to replace the entire front axle just so I can have 4 wheel drive

these are the hubs for the Dana 35 (if thats what you have) Mile marker hubs You also have to buy the conversion kit, Conv kitand you will need a spindle socket to torque the nuts properly. (Available at AutoZone or most parts stores)

This can help you identify your axle.. Ranger/BII axle ID

My truck has the Dana 28. I installed these in about 20 minutes.

Yah its the dana 35, just went and checked. So your pretty sure its just the hubs? I think I might just have to buy these. Better than searching high and low for them!

Thanks for your help.

Well it was what my problem was... but I would still look at them first before dropping $150. I dont think you can go wrong by putting the manual hubs in though, they are definitely stronger than the auto hubs.

and yer welcome. B)

Already ordered them. Ill pop them on Thursday. If that doesnt fix it, then next is the transfer case. Nothing wrong with having new stuff on your truck. B)
