I would look for an EFI 460 with a C6 tranny if doing the swap. Remember that the 460 is alot heavier than your current motor, and the rest of the drivetrain will need to be strengthened. I'm looking at a 460/C6 combo that a friend has, but he's trying to talk me into a 500+Hp 351Cleveland instead. Hmmm... @-)

Then I think it would be worth finding a 460 or 427 and build it up. L&L Products here in Texas has some awesome mods and stuff for such a project.

If it were me, I would just build off the small block. If you go big, you will have to get a BB tranny, redo the exhaust, reloacate the oil filter. No to mention it will be shoe horned in the engine compartment. Parts for small blocks are more readily available and generally cheaper than BB parts also. I was looking at going back to a small block, but decided to rebuild my 460 just because of all the expense of going back.

Not only that but unless you have the EFI set up from a Cali. 460 you can only do small mods. I guess there are probably some shops that can tune it for you but until it gets tuned you wont have ANY driveability.

well for now i am gonna go with another windsor, but i just might go back to a 390 down the road, i had one in a 79 short bed posi front n rear n 33's on it, i could smoke all tires n 4 hi it was an awesome engine n i just found one sittin n a junk yard n they only want 60 dollars for ne V8, so i am gonna ****** the tranny for it too n just go put it right on the engine stand n give it the rebuild it properly deserves.
