I bought a 75 fixer uper today. The guy said the 4wd worked fine. When I tested it, it jumps out of low range and makes a poping sound. High range seems to work. Can someone point me in a direction to start? I'm thinking transfer case. Rebuid or replace? Thanks

Pull the cover & be sure the J-shifter is moving the shift rods fully in & out to their "indents" ...if not, manually push them & see if it will stay in gear. (Assuming you have a manual floor shift installed) ....you may just need J-shifter adjustment, or replacement. ;) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

I was never happy with my J-shifters....it seemed I could find engagment in places where it wasn't supposed to be....but when done correctly, it worked fine. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />
