I have a problem, i have a 1984 Bronco Fullsize, 351W, 2bbl motorcraft carb (stock), man. trans.

The problem is anytime i hit the highway or above 55 mph the truck starts hesitating, losing power, tach is jumpy, will shut off but start right back up everytime, or will shut down and fire up on its own and backfire. Will only do these things at highway speeds. I have checked, double checked, and triple checked everything i can think of. I have replaced so many parts there is no way i could list them all. I dont know what to do. PLEASE HELP !!!!

thanks

Welcome to the Zone > . Your symptoms definately indicate some sort of ignition problem. Have you replaced the pick up coil inside the distributor? It may be shorting out. Does this often start when going up a slope of any kind or putting a load on the engine like accelerating? Possible arch over inside the distributor cap. Have the symptoms changed with any of the parts you replaced? Have you checked the timing chain and gears for wear and fit?

Good luck,

:)>-

I dont think it has a pick up coil, the only thing inside the dist. cap is one big rotor, eltronic ignition. I did check the timing chain and components, everything is good. No change in symptoms. Does not matter if its under load, or going up hill, or acceleration. VERY frustrating

thanks for the welcome

Look under the big rotor. The two wires that enter the distributor go to the pickup.
