I have a 74 with a 302 and a C4 that I want to swap a 351w into. I have found a motor but need to know about the little suprises I will encounter and what parts I will need. I am going to replace the radiator as well.

I also would like to know what intake and carb set up you have used and works well. Can I still put headers on the 351 and make it fit?

My 74 is mainly for the Silver Lake sand dunes in Michigan but I do drive it around town.

Thank you for your extra efforts!

I swapped in a 351W about 6 yrs ago and am very happy with it. To get it to bolt up is not a problem seeing how it is still a small block and bolts to the C4 and motor mounts. I had to install a body lift to clear the power brake setup though. Also had to make a new power steering mount because the heads are taller.

I ended up putting my headers from the old 302 on it first but later switched them out to stock exhaust manifolds because they where started to get pinholes in them and I had plenty of power anyway. I run a Edlebrock intake and a Holley truck Avenger 670cfm and love it. The carb does better angles than advertised.

As for the C4 all it has in it is a shift kit. Running 35" mudders I still get a chirp when it shifts into 2nd but it does slip a bit more than it did 13 yrs ago when I first put it in.

Enjoy the power and better fuel economy.

Edelbrock performer intake and edelbrock carb work well. I like q-jet cause they are cheap and work at all angles. They are a gas hog though. The Carter is a nice runner, not lots of power just makes the truck run like new.
