I'm in the process of swapping my 302 for a 351W in my Early Bronco '75. I haven't put the engine in yet, but my tape measure measurements have me scratching my head. It looks like the hood will most likely hit.

351W set up:

-using a edelbrock performer four barrel intake

-edelbrock 600 performer carb

-was going to try to stick with the OEM air cleaner

Question:

Is there any one out there who has done this conversion with the orignal Ford Bronco aircleaner and left their hood uncut? How much clearance is required? Will a body lift be enough? Or is that a bad idea?

Any help here would be appreciated.

2" body lift should clear it just enough. If you require more than 2" you might think about getting a fiberglass hood with a scoop on it rather than cobbling up a good hood.

Thanks for advise. Won't a 2" body lift change the steering setup and trans linkage?

The fiberglass hood is starting to look like the answer.

I was wondering has anyone ever considered putting in a shaker hood.

Similar to the ram air shaker on the 70-71 mach 1 mustang/Torino.

I've seen a kit for a mock one for a modern mustang. I'm thinking about maybe seeing if this will work.

What do you think?

Has anyone tried this?

Never seen that shaker done, but a fiberglass hood is probably the way to go. Yeah, you will have to change some linkages and that sort of thing, but I am not sure what all it entales. I don't have a body lift. There is a high rise/profile hood out there, you might look at Kentrol's website. I don't know the website but do a search for Kentrol fiberglass bodies and you should find it. Wild Horses or Duff might also that hood too.

Wild Horse has the hood you are looking for. I looked around for a while and ended up going right back to Wild Horse.

I have a custom "Shaker" intake on my 84 fullsize Bronco, you can view my gallery at superford.org (link is in my profile). I'm not sure you would have enough room for something like that in an early Bronco-351W. A hood with a raised scoop or cowl would be better than a body lift, IMO.
