I have a '84 bronco with a 351 windsor. I recently changed the intake manifold to a edlelbrock preformer and changed the carb to a holly 4 b. I also installed a 351w hei conversion distributor from bronco graveyard. the new parts seem to work ok and did give the motor a nice power boost except for one problem. Now my oil pressure is running almost out of the normal range on the high side and the engine is forcing oil out of the top of the dipstick. I have a pcv valve on the right hand valve cover and a hose leading to the lower port on the back of the carb. I have the oil filler cap plummed to the bottom of my air filter. Any Ideas on what went wrong?

Just off the top of my head are you sure that your intake gaskets are sealing and not pushing coolant into the engine oil?If you havent added any oil,its filling up somehow.

The problem could be caused by ring wear causing blow by in the cylinders which in turn pressurizes the crank case causing the oil backup.

Good luck,

Yeah but thats not just going to happen overnight from just changing an intake and distributor.

Can't think of what might be different, but were there any foot notes with the new dist. in regards to the oil pump shaft? Just fishin without a hook here...

Hey 50joe,Ive done the same distributor setup up on mine,Its basically just a chevy hei on top and a ford shaft on the bottom,Its pretty cool .Cleans up the intake with no coil in the way any more and just a 1 wire hook up,You just drop it in like a ford one and set your timing. :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />

Just wierd, cant see anything else kickin up the pressure for no reason. Although its not like the dist. could possibly spin any faster. Like I said, fishin with no hook....LOL

Yeah right. It cant spin any faster.Thats why I thought maybe coolent was leaking in,But hes saying its not milky...Maybe the relief on the oil pump is stuck closed. That will keep the pressure high. And usually the blow by at worst case would only push oil out the dipstick after being on the highway for a little bit. This ones got me wondering

Actually, that is exactly what just popped into my head. Remembered a car coming in a few months ago, doing exactly that. (forget what it was). Dropped the pan, pulled the pump, and turns out it came apart inside. Think it was a 2.2 camry, but same principal.

Hey guys thanks for the thought on this one. The only other thing I can think to tell ya is the reason I changed the dist. is the old tfi system would not advance. so the whole thing has been ******** the whole time I've owned the truck. because of the new intake carb and dist. I'm turning alot more rpm than ever I have the timing set on 36 degrees total timing and not using the vac advance. it idles at about 15 degrees. Everyone I have talked to points to excessive blow by. I guess I'm starting to lean that way too and just never noticed before cause I never pushed this motor that hard. What do you think? and if this is it how do I confirm this diagnosis

Post the solution when you find out what is causing it. It might help some one else.
