i'm building a 351-m 400 and am a bit stumped on which way to go with it. I want some real power but on the other hand i want sensibility, go figure that a bronco owner wants it all... Anyway, i'm looking for some responses from others who have gone either way and how did you like thier choice.

I'm looking to go with a 30 over bore, with a shaved deck, mild cam, light head work a 650 or a 700, with 2 3/4" headers.

all responses and advise would be wisely read.

Its all in the headwork and cam!! Get the heads to flow well then find a cam that is suitable for what you plan to do with it. What size combustion chamber will you have after the headwork? I like to try to get around 10:1 compression. With that you can still run on pump gas. Go to the Keith Black Silvolite website for a compression ratio calculator. A 700 carb might be a bit too much depending on what jets are in it. Are you going to do vacuum or mechanical secondaries? Buy everything brand new for the heads, dont try to reuse any locks or springs or anything!!!!!! How much has the block been decked? Be sure to check your quench and be really sure to correctly degree your cam or you could end up with a mess! If you need some help pm me.

search around ebay you can find aussie heads on there for around 5-600 which are basically a decent aftermarket head...and personally if i were you i wouldnt go .030 on the bore you can find a 10-11.1 piston to fit stock bore and as leadsled said its in the heads cam headers and all that...if you want best power for your money send the whole motor out get everything balanced and blueprinted, whatever cam you decide to run be sure to have that degreed in as well its all the small stuff that makes a big difference
