so i want to swap my 89 efi 302 to a 351 carb. i plan on running a nice hefty RV cam, edelbrock preformer intake, holley 600-650 cfm, possably headers :D /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" />, any flaws so far? the only thing im still confused about is my tranny.. i want to stay with AOD, ive read theyre not computer controlled, but ive seen one or two guys say they are, my guess is that its not...assuming its not means the only thing i have do mess with is the kick down right? or is there computer crap that goes with the swap?..the less electronics, the happier i am :))

you are correct, the AOD is not computer-controlled for the shifts. There is a T.V. or kickdown cable that you'll need to hook to the carb. AN 85/86 model 351W with the AOD from the factory would have what you need. May be real hard to find, though. JSM84

I agree with JSM, they are not computer controlled but the TV cable is nothing to sneeze at. Is a bit of a pain to set up. Your swap sounds very good.

Yup, a mis-adjusted TV cable will smoke your tranny faster than you'll believe, not something to ***** around with. The AOD itself is a great tranny, I'd like to run one myself to get that 4th gear. I agree finding factory parts will be hard, the problem is that you really have to maintain the *ratio* between the TV cable & throttle cable. Instead of using a vacuum line to a modulator valve the AOD uses the TV cable to tell the tranny how much throttle you're giving the engine & when to time it's shifts. You want the TV cable to move just as much as the throttle cable does. Probably the easiest way to do it would be to just use an aftermarket cable from someone like Lokar, that way you'll get all the bracketry as well and mounting it isn't so much of an issue.

Yes. If the throttle cable moves 2" then the TV should also move 2". If it's mis-adjusted the shifts tend to feel sloppy, if you feel sluggish 1-2 or 2-3 shifts don't wait, readjust it asap. It honestly will smoke the tranny if not setup correctly. Here's a good link that Miesk5 found for us that shows how to properly adjust the cable:
