goin nuts here tryin to figure out how to remove that large C-Ring that sits back inside the hub

Looks to me like the C-Ring is holding the other half of the automatic hub inside ,the hub itself

Ive been trying to to put 2 small screwdrivers in there to pry it loose ,to no avail

if anyone can be of some help it will be apreciated

thanks in advance

Sam

Swapped out my auto's for manual's, if I'm remebering right, you need a ringclip (not sure of that's the proper name of the tool.) It looks like a pair of needlenose pliers, but with very small pins at the end, and opens when you squeeze instead of close. You need to get these pins inside the small holes in the ring, it looks like just a circle, but about 98% complete, and the opening ends in 2 small pinholes. Once you get them in there, it should shrink the ring a little, allowing you to slide the rest of the guts out.

Like I said, I'm not 100% sure on this, I did it with an experienced friend late at night in the workshop after a long and tiring day. I hope this helps (and for my own sake of mechanic-in-training) and that it's right. :p

The ring clip plyer thingys will work on the clip that is attached to the axle, but will not work on the outer ring that I believe you are talking about. You have the right idea with the 2 screwdrivers, its a pain in the butt but thats how its done, once you get the first one off you develope a knack for it and the next one is alot easier.

Yes thats correct the larger of the rings that is directley installed into the inner hub .its called a c-clip its about 3 inches in diameter

Went to the ford dealer with digital pics talked to one of the techs ,he was good enough to loan me a set of small pics made by snap on tools very small in diameter yet very strong .one was bent at a 90 the other was bent in an odd snkake like shape ,he put the bends in both of these pics to use especially for this type of extraction .They worked great

so yes its a miserable job on the first side but the other side will be a breeze

Anywhoo shes all back in one piece and there is no more in and out play on the passenger side

It was just the adjustment that was out on the bearing retainer nut

thanks for all the help

take care

Sam
