I just picked up a 1993 EB Bronco 5.8 qith just over 160,000 miles. What do I need to change out besides the oil & oil filter, cap and rotor, plugs, wires, and fuel filter? I am having a heck of a time removing the old fuel filter, even with the quick disconnects, my neighbor came over and said they look like some kind of compression fitting, below is the pic. Anyways, besides my stubborn fuel filter, anything else I should be on the lookout for?

I have a 96 with 160000 miles on it. I just had to drop a line to you and say good friggen luck with the fuel filter. That is the exact one that is in my truck and I have been messin with it for the better part of a month. I have bought every tool designed to remove those lines and it still wont give. What started out as a 8 dollar maintenance, became about a 35 dollar episode of frustration. If you figure it out let me know, and if I figure it out i will let you know. Deal???

Sounds good, I will probably take it to my mechanic later this week, I'll let you know what he says.

I'd change the transmission fluid & filter as well as the transfer case fluid. Grease everything that has a fitting and get in there and service the hubs as well.

As far as the fuel filter goes, this MAY just be one of those time when you have to grit your teeth & bare it by going to Ford and buying THEIR filter removal tool. They're never cheap but sometimes you just have to go to the horses mouth. Alternately you could bring it to a dealership to have it changed and get the tech to let you watch & see *just* what he uses and how he removes it. I've had to do both in the past when I just just plumb stuck for any other solution.. I absolutely Ford has a part # of a fuel filter removal tool they use for that and it will be listed in the Factory manual published by Helm Inc. Either buy the manual to see how it's done, buy the tool from Ford or do both and be sure of it.

Wish I could offer something more but sometimes that's all you can do. Maybe search & see if Snap-On has a tool for this but I really *doubt* it will be any cheaper than Ford's but it should work as good or better.

Alright, got it figured out. I have attatched a couple pics of the tool I used. The kit of little plastic tools I got from AutoZone was $10. The part number on the tool kit is 25052 and the title of it is "Air Conditioning & Fuel Line Disconnect Tool Set". There are a few little plastic tools in there. The one you are after is a light blue one with the two big tabs coming off the sleeve. Okay, now lets see if I can do this without confusing myself. Slide the fuel lines as far away from the filter as you can on both ends of the filter. Open the light blue plastic tool and slide it over the fuel line, in between the line and the filter. The sleeve part needs to face towards the fuel line and the tabs face towards the filter. Slide the plastic tool into the fuel line until you hear a click, then pull the fuel line off. Repeat for the other side. Getting the little plastic tool over the line can be a bugger, but once I got it over, took me like 5 minutes. Hope this helped!!
