Look in the Tech Articles & How-To forum for a link to "MiesK5 Homepage". You should find some info on steering column repair. IT ain't easy, but you shouldn't have to replace the whole column.

If you can get a column cheep from a jusk yard it would be easier to replace it. Most likely you will need to get one in order to replace the locking mechanism any way. I had one in a van that broke like that and the mechanic said it would be easier and less expensive to just replace the column. So that is what I did and he was right. I had the one out of a truck in the junkyard in under 1/2 hr and with about another hour of work I was back in business. I did the same thing basically to take out the non tilt column in my Bronco and replace it with a tilt one with cruise controls on it :) /emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> .

If you need the proceedure for removal and replacement, I'll photograph the pages in my shop manual and attach them to this thread.

Good luck,

:)>-
