I have a 1989 4.9L bronco efi. I have a vacuum line tree coming off the efi that is missing all kinds of vacuum lined and hissing something fiernce. Also the two vacuum lines coming off the throtlle body dont go anywhere. Could anyone tell me where all these lines are supposed to go in great detail. I am no mechanic. Just broke. Thanks in advance. I have found vacuum diagrams but they are like chinese to me.

yo!

I feel your pain man!

Try this for now until we get someone w/same eng and year to post some better info and w/pics;

Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) Decal; Contains Vacuum Diagram & Calibration Parts List for 88 & UP.

On-Line for Free at Ford.

Click "Quick Guides" in left panel;

Scroll to & CLICK VECI Labels "Provides Vehicle Emission Control Information (VECI) and a related calibration parts list."

Enter applicable info (need to know your Calibration number from your B-pillar sticker).

Vacuum Diagram is the same as the one on the core support or hood or air filter cover.

Vacuum Diagram Color Codes:

Red = Main vacuum

Green = EGR function

White = EGR vacuum (source)

Black = Mainly used for the Evaporative emissions control

Black = Thermactor ACV or Diverter valve

Pink = TAD to Thermactor Air Bypass Valve (TAB or AIR BPV) /AIR Bypass (AIRB) valve

NOTE: AIR BPV is the AIR Bypass (AIRB) Valve; also called the TAB (Thermactor Air Bypass) Valve in other years/diagrams

From TOP of Diagram at NOON position;

MAP is da Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor

EFCA is Electronic Fuel Control Assembly

TAD is Thermactor Air Diverter (TAD) Solenoid; see my site @ http://www.broncolinks.com/index.php?index=905

TAB is Thermactor Air Bypass (TAB) Solenoid; see my site @ http://www.broncolinks.com/index.php?index=904

EVR is EGR Vacuum Regulator

MAN VAC is Manifold Vacuum

FPR is Fuel Pressure Regulator

VRESER is the Vacuum Reservoir Can (Tank

Air Pump is the Smog Pump IN Thermactor System pumps air into catlaytic converter

AC is most likely ACV (Air Control Valve) is the TAD (Thermactor Air Diverter) Valve- could be an AIR Bypass (AIRB) and AIR Diverter (AIRD) valve combination

CAT is the catalytic converter

CAN is most likely Canister Purge Solenoid Valve/ Canister Purge Solenoid (CANP); is controlled by the PCM to vent fumes from the charcoal canister to intake manifold only when the engine is running

ENG is the engine

ok my primary concern is the gigantic jolt i get when i put the vehicle in gear. What goes to what to keep that smooth. It was smooth before so I think its just a vacuum hose connected wrong. or not connected at all.

Its idling way too hight right now.

yo,

re; "...my primary concern is the gigantic jolt i get when i put the vehicle in gear..." wish you mentioned that in your post.

THOSE VACUUM LINES and vac operated devices can cause this...esp w/tranny type in the Bronco. See below.

I went back through the topics you posted here previously and I see that you have had some fuel or electrical issues and BroncoJoe suggested you Test for Codes; but you never replied.

so,

How to scan for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in your driveway, by my buddy, BroncoJoe

Run it around to heat the engine up and shift thru all gears incl Reverse. Then turn off all accessories/lights, etc.

Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic) or in Neutral for a Manual & release clutch.

Do Key On Engine Off (KOEO) portion first.

The engine temperature must be greater than 50°F (10°C) to pass the KOEO Self-Test

and greater than 180°F (82°C) to pass the KOER Self-Test.

Post Code(s) found here by KOEO and by KOER

=================================================

- Next is to finally ID your tranny

AOD - E4OD Identification;

If the shifter has a P-R-N-OD-D-1 pattern, the transmission must be an AOD

If a 1989-1993 truck has an Overdrive Cancel Switch and a P-R-N-OD-2-1 shifter pattern, then it is equipped with an E4OD transmission

Source: by Baumann Electronic Controls, LLC

Post your tranny type here and in your signature.

================

& Just in case a prev owner swapped in a C6 tranny.....Shifter Pattern is P-R-N-D-2-1

........

If you have an AOD, some possible causes are:

Check fluid level and condition

Unusual engine performance (hard to diagnose w/those vac lines & vac actuated devices open)

TV pressure too high - check and adjust

Governor stuck or dragging - clean governor

Valve body problem - check bolts for loseness or overtightened; sticky valves in valve body (usually due to owner maintenance neglect in fluid/filter changes, etc.)

...

E4OD;

Check fluid level and condition

Pull codes

Inspect/Test Throttle Position Sensor (TPS)

Don't buy anything such as the TPS until you check for codes and test what the Codes refer to..because a TPS code may be caused by other thAngs such as a bad connector or a corroded terminal within da conn... and other factors.

Look codes up in my site using Search feature; Sensor tests are in Electrical Section under..Sensor @ http://www.broncolinks.com/index.php?index=134

Sensors for Emission devices such as EGR, AIR Injection system, etc. are under Emission @ http://www.broncolinks.com/index.php?index=24

GL!

Thsnk you for the replies. I will pull the codes as soon as the inch of ice melts off the truck. I was gone overseas for a year so never got around to the other problems it has. Hopefully as it warms up I will be able to do more work on it. Thanks for the diagram links. They are very helpfull.

The vac line at the trans modulator had come off. At the trans no less. She will now shift thru gears. Now I can start working on the other stuff.
