My 1988 Fullsize Bronco with the v8 351 windsor is having troubles running and starting. When i go to start it will turn over and initially fires but then immediately dies. when you go to start it again will not start unless throttle is pushed to the floor. It also stalls when you slow back down and it switches from high to low idle. This is a fuel injected model. I have replace the spark plugs, fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, air filter, IAC, Throttle positioning sensor and fuel filter. I have also cleaned the throttle body and run fuel injector cleaner through the gas. Any ideas as to what the problem may be?

yo berning,

Try a Self Test for Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC)s by my pal, BroncoJoe19

http://broncozone.com/topic/14269-code-reader/page__pid__74587__mode__threaded

The engine temperature must be greater than 50° F for the Key On Engine Off (KOEO) Self-Test and greater than 180° F for the Key On Engine Running (KOER) Self-Test.

Hopefully you can run it around or let it idle long enough to heat the engine up and shift thru all gears incl Reverse. Then turn off all accessories/lights, etc.

Make sure A/C is off and transmission is in Park (automatic) or in Neutral for a Manual & release clutch.

Do Key On Engine Off (KOEO) portion first.

Look Codes up in my broncolinks.com site using the new Search function.

And Post em here according to:

KOEO

&

KOER

If you think it is just idling too low to keep running, Ford sold a fix for low idle on the early EFI trucks that was a spacer that fit below the IAC, which allowed an adjustable amount of air to bypass the IAC, to increase the idle RPMs. I solved my stalling on starting by cutting away the gasket between the two holes in the IAC gasket. In fact, I made a gasket that was a bit thicker so it would bypass more air. It completely solved my stalling problem, but your problem could be different, as my truck would start right up after it stalled, although it might stall a couple of times unless I kept the idle up with the throttle.
