I am brand new to the website and think it is great. I recently purchased an 86 Bronco II 2.9l v6 auto with no rust and in great shape. It only has 94000 miles and is the truck I have always wanted for off-roading and hunting. It looks great and when it runs, it runs great. Here is what has been happening and what I have done so far.... It runs and drives great for about 4-5 miles or will sit and idle for about 25-30 minutes and then it dies. I try to start it and it wont start. After waiting about 2 hrs, it starts and runs great. This has happened to me 3x's, so it is getting old. I have had my mech, who is a chevy mech but does my work for cheap, replaced the both fuel pumps, the one in the tank and the one on the rail, the lines in the tank and the fuel soleniod ( ??? ). The only conclusion that we can make so far is that it is in the computer and there is some relay that is not working properly...

I will get more details from my mechanic to help explain better but anyone out there that can get me started would be much apprciated. Thanks

You might want to hold onto those pumps that he pulled, because they might both still be good.

Why do you think it is fuel related? When it doesn't start, did you check your fuel pressure?

Did you check to see if you are getting spark when it doesn't start?

With an '86, I am guessing that you have an early duraspark ignition system.

Seabronc has mentioned in a number of threads, that if an engine with an early duraspark ignition system stalls after it heats up, "like someone reached over your shoulder and turned the key off" it is a classic sign of a faulty pick up coil inside the distributor. Especially if it starts right up after it cools down.
