Any help greatly appreciated! My 85 Bronco has the original 351w and the original Holley 4bbl. It's also an automatic. I did the usual de-smog,de-vacuum line thing under the hood and now the Bronc wont idle when placed in gear. It idles fine in park. Have I plugged something which should be open or is something still unplugged? Or is my carb just junk?

Hey RK,

No way to tell about your carb here. We have no knowledge what all you disconnected. How did it run before you did the de- everything?

I suspect there is a vacuum port open somewhere that you missed capping, and /or you removed the vacuum line to the distributer, causing the timing to be ********.

Dilligently go over everything. sometimes you can spray some carb cleaner around the base of the carb and it will help you find a vac leak.

Good luck

What is the idle speed in park?

Not all the vacuum lines are for smog abatement. Some of them are required for proper start and run under various conditions. As previously mentioned the distributor hose needs to be hooked to the proper port on the carb. You should have a vacuum diagram on the radiator support. Also you need to follow the procedure that is outlined on that diagram for making adjustment to the cold idle and lastly making the adjustment for the hot idle, (two different locations). The hot idle will have to be set to about 1100 RPM in order to get an in gear idle of about 650 RPM. The only way to make the hot idle adjustment is to slowly adjust it. (about 1/4 turn at a time), until the truck will go into D with out stalling. You can then drive it a bit to see how that works for "stop and go" . If it threatens to stall or you feel uncomfortable with the idle speed when stopped at a light, adjust the hot idle ***** a 1/4 turn at a time until it feels comfortable to you.

Minimum recommended vacuum arrangement. http://www.supermoto...ry/media/672883

Good luck,

:)>-
