One very easy way to tell a 351M to a 351W is that the upper radiator hose fitting on a 351M comes out of the block straight up and a 351W comes out of the intake usually comes out of the intake and kicks up 45 deg or in some cases a 90 deg . The other easy way to tell is the exhaust manifold bolts on a 289,302,351W are straight across from eachother like this _ _ The 351M,400,351C are diagonal like this _ - . LOL not good pics but you get the idea . Theres other ways too like the distributor drive shaft in a 351W is 5/16 and a 351M is 3/8 . The motor mount on a 351W bolt to the block with 2 bolts and a 351M bolt on with 3 . Hope that helps .
