What is involved in changing over to a 1 wire alternator on a 302. Will the existing brackets work?

Thanks,

David

I assume you are installing a 3G alternator. Most older trucks require the alternator with long mounting ears. I am not familiar with the bracket on your truck but the one on the 80 - 86 works.

A good site for information is http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=21

Good luck,

:)>-

Thanks, I will have to study this a little. The 3g is what I want to go to. After looking at the information on the site you showed me, I am a little confused as to what all I need to buy. Thanks again for all the help. The rebuild has been and is still quite a learning experience.

Thanks, David

You need the following items to install a 3G:

1. 130+ Alternator http://fordfuelinjection.com/images/3Galternator-VB.jpg

2. Wire harness http://fordfuelinjection.com/images/3Gharness.jpg

3. Heavy duty charge cable and Mega fuse http://fordfuelinjection.com/images/alt-cable.jpg

4. Instructions http://fordfuelinjection.com/index.php?p=75

All availablae from Ford Fuelinjection http://fordfuelinjection.com/?p=21

I'm not necessarily pushing the product at that site, but I know his stuff and it is high quality. You could get a 3G from a junk yard, but you really don't know the condition of what you get. It may last for a couple of years ot it may only last for a few days. I got one from a junkyard and ended up rebuilding it with parts from fordfuelinjection.

Good luck,

:)>-

Thank you very much. It helps a lot to get the information from somebody who has aready done it. At least this way, I will be putting in right the first time. Like I said, a lot of this project has been a learning experience. It has been a lot of fun learning it, but some of the things, it really helps to talk to those who know. Thanks again for all the help.
