Over heating

The good news first... I talked my wife into not selling my Bronco so now I don't have to worry about that. New problem though, it keeps overheating when I'm driving. I've replaced the waterpump, fan clutch, and thermostat. I haven't replaced the radiator because I haven't got around to it yet. I was wondering if that was most likely my problem though or could it be something else? It stay's hot while I'm driving but when at idle it will actually attempt to cool off a bit. Mainly when I have it at around 14-1600 RPM but that's not to bad I suppose. I have an electric fan to put on but I haven't been able to get the wires for it yet since I just finished moving. Any suggestions would be great... >-

Give the radiator a shot, you've replaced the other major components, so that leaves the radiator.

Yes, a new F-250 radiator is fairly cheap. What degree thermostat are you using? 195? A 180 may work, if your's is an older Bronco like a mid-80's. Also, be sure the fan clutch is working. IF the fan ain't turning, that's your problem. HAve you done a cooling system flush? I was surprised by all of the crud built up in my new intake after only 2 years when I tore the engine down. Word! Cooling system flush is a BIG DEAL. I do it every year now. All kinds of crap comes out of there. And if your radiator is all clogged up, that would definitely heat up your engine. Radiator rebuilds are an option, but I'd go with JSM84's suggestion and put in a new, bigger radiator. That electric fan will improve things immensly according to several people on this board. That's my next move...Radiator, then fan.

I sued to have a deisel radiator in my old bronco. I don't know how the guy did it, but I could drive around town all day long and my gauge would never even touch normal. wierd...

Well, before I went and purhased a new radiator something from auto 1 in high school hit me... check the radiator cap for proper poundage. Well, my radiator cap (even though it's cool looking) wasn't doing its job and just a little heat was opening it and I was loosing my fluid in the overflow. Never did think of that but now I have a new one on and it seems to be doing just fine. Just thought I would give an update... /
