I want a roof rack that would just cover the metal cab roof of my Bronco does anyone know of anything like this available? If not I believe I could fab one up but was wondering how to attach it? Those gutter clamps seem like the way to go I guess. I think this little added storage would be good and also could be a place for a light bar...kind of a basket tpye rack with a light bar in front.....What do ya'll think? Anybody tried it??

Hey bro, my 1984 has one on it that came with it. It is one that locks onto the gutters with key locks. Nothing fancy but it works. It is very sturdy.

you have any pics of the one on your 84?
It's real basic, and I don't have any good close ups of it. Here is a couple though. I'm not sure what the original tubing was but he used a heavy type of pipe to replace the original. I am to change it sometime into a larger one using square tubing and I want it to extend over the hard top too, with metal grating on the bottom to keep stuff up and off the roof. Right now it's good for toating the canoe or stuff but not for coolers or storage totes.

Thats just what I have in mind and then build a basket about 8 inches high that would clamp to the rack for carrying collers, etc. and also a light bar......I think I could build what I want if I find some of the gutter clamps. Probbaly find those on the net somewhere. My wife and I are going to use our Bronc for camping alot and want as much storage as possible but don't want to put anything on the hard top as we will probably remove it at times. I have one of those deals that goes in your receiver hitch to carry some stuff but was looking for a little more storage. Thought about building a rack that fits over the external spare like some jeeps have also.....I got lotsa ideas just no time to get anything doen lately

Nice, I'm sure you can find gutter clamps online. If it wasn't for the spare tire carrier on the back I would say get you one of those bed extenders that flipps out when the tailgate is down to allow you to use the extra length of the tailgate but that would not allow you to use the receiver carrier....decisions decisions decisoins. $-) but I'm sure you can make the roof rack work like your thinking. One thing I want to do down the road is the roll cage in the back and put the mesh on top of it so I can use it for a carrier when the top is off, and when it's on it will be just up and out of the way anyway. Lots to consider.
