I just bought a 67 bronco that was improved for off roading - probably in the eighties or early ninetys. Suspension lift, dual front shocks, CB radio, roll bar, etc. I'm doing a complete overhaul now and the body is off the frame. I need to replace shocks, but I don't know what the suspension lift is. How do I find out?

Hi Scott.....,

You may be better served knowing/or showing us (via pics) what type/brand of lift.

A later, soft ride suspension may be your best bet. (early lifts left a lot to be desired)

However, the shocks.....take one with you to the auto parts store. they can match the stretch/length. You don't have to buy theirs but, you'll know the length.

(A modern lift comes with shocks)

Here's some photos. The last owner said they thought it was a Rancho suspension.

Don't know where you are but that looks like the older "K Bar S" or James duff suspension.

I don't think it is a lift though....you'd have to measure to be sure.

Having said that.,

I have the same front shock set-up. (mine works good, rides great, & articulates awsome) The forward-most front shocks are the add-ons., & I doubt they're available anymore. You can., however, put shock studs in the attach points & use a longer shock if you do a lift.

My upper shock mount had 2 extra holes drilled in them so I was able to lower the top mount position & just re-used those same shocks when I did my 2.5in. lift.

(dual shocks aren't really necessary.., but they don't hirt anything either)

The only reason I added a lift was @ my radius arm bushings blew out ...so while I had it appart I thought "what the hay" might as well do a small lift.

Sooooooooo..., You can do a lift now., later., or not at all....depending on your intended use..

Bob -

Thanks for the info! The truck came from Las Vegas and had James Duff and K Bar S phone number among the papers, so that's probably the suspension. I think I'll leave it as it is as far as lift goes - looks great and should ride good on 32s. Keep things old school. I'll deal with the shocks when I get to that point - right now sandblasting the body...

Scrub those shock-shafts with a plastic scrubber & Lime-Away......paint the bodies & they may be good to go for another ten yrs......

My front most ones, like yours, are of the same vintage & work just fine... :D/
