Ignition Issues!

Well! I've been following this forum for a while and just decided to join and get it over with ha! I've got a 1982 Bronco with the 351w and the auto transmission. Oddly enough, I also have a 1983 F250 with the 6.9idi and the 4 speed. Apparently being born in the 80's and having 80's vehicles is the way to go! Newest vehicle I own is my Goldwing and it's an '84

go to 

CHARGE AND POWER DISTRIBUTIONCheck battery grounds at frame, engine, etc.

Inspect fusible links such as E that powers light switch, radio, etc.

Any voltage in fuseblock?

I'll check that - this thing is a bloody disaster of a wiring mess for lack of a better word. I need to double check all the grounds and see if I'm missing one since this motor was replaced. I'll show ya what I mean...

This is the wiring at the Solenoid. The blue wire goes to the push button inside the cab, yellow wire on the battery side is the electric fuel pump, and the red wire also is for the fuel pump.



Here's the fuse block. Not even sure where to begin to check for power; at the moment there's no power in it at all

Ok, trace back from fuse block .. my tablet's resolution os awful and I have blurry vision now.

Can trace from batty fwd if tgat is easier for you.  Until last year, I woukd pront the wiring diagrams and tape then together.

Okay - pardon the delay but I've run into a snag. The harness which connects to the ignition switch on the column is roasted...and apparently was removed by the previous owner(s)

SO - here's what I'm looking at.



Thinking I'll just go about this the hard way and bypass this switch with a key'd one and a 50 amp two pole toggle; should make life sorta simple in theory!

So looking for what needs to be tied into what to make this thing start with a better switch.

The two yellows are obviously the hots coming in from the battery

On the same side as the two yellows is a Yellow/Grey

Bottom is a purple/white

On the opposite side is

Black/Green Hash marks

Red/green and brown/purple that are together

Red/black and Yellow with Blue hash marks together

Lastly a Red/Blue and a Red/White which also are together

I'm sorta electrical savvy so I can figure most of it out. Just need to figure out what wires connect to what terminals if that makes sense

Is diff for me on my tablem because it has no split screen capability nor can I print them.

BK is Black

BL is Blue

PK is Pink

P is Purple

There are some close color matches such as:

Black/Green = Could be BL/LG?
Red/green = Could be R/LG?

and

brown/purple = Could be BR/PK

that are together

Red/black = could be R/LB?

and

Yellow with Blue hash marks = could be W /LB H?;  H is hash mark

together
Lastly a Red/Blue = Coul d be R/BL?

and a Red/White = Could be R/LB?

Will have to go out son, be back this afternoon.

Call local library, ask if they have All Data available, if not, Chilton on line or ARRC, ETC.

That's pretty substantial for a graphic, thanks haus! Below are the direct links to the pictures, maybe that'll help a bit since resolution isn't too good. Question now is what goes to what on the new key switch? The switch has Battery, Ignition and Solenoid as far as the terminals go.

I haven't found a wiring diagram for the switch ... just that.

Check with your library.

Will continue to hunt down the switch diagram,

I went through:

 Auto Repair Reference Center (AARC) - this is a combo of Chilton/Nichols/Delmar, & Haynes printed Manuals;

& Chilton on-line.

But no ignition switch wiring diagrams, a waste of time.
