Life sucks today, my 92 ford Bronco died on me on the way home from work. My truck died on my way home tonight. The battery light came on and the engine died. it was running fine and I turned the corner and it died.  it cranks but doesn't seem to be getting any spark. It has an MSD ignition and coil on it so I disconnected it and connected stock ignition back up and an old coil that I new was good but it still wouldn't start. I sprayed some starting fluid in throttle body and it still wouldn't start. Any ideas where to start looking for the issue?

Yo Rog,

Sorry to hear about that.

See http://troubleshootmyvehicle.com/ford/4.9L-5.0L-5.8L/how-to-troubleshoot-a-no-start-1

Here is some info to go along with this article:

Can obtain some test items from local parts store, especially the mom and pop ones. Local store loans out the spark tester or diy; remove a plug wire, insert a Phillips screwdriver or spare plug piece of bare wire into the plug wire boot and place the end near the engine block (do not hold the plug wire while cranking the engine unless you want a shocking experience). If there’s a spark when the engine is cranked, it has ignition. The problem is either fuel or compression.

Since starting fluid didn't do anything, dwell on fuel system.

Do you hear the fuel pump while cranking?

If not, Usual suspects;

Inertia switch, is it tripped? Locate the switch inside passenger side kick panel (the button is red) push the switch down to reset it (push down, and it holds down)

fuel pump, can obtain FP Tester from local parts store loan a tool.

Key on, engine off is 35—45 PSI

After engine can run Key on, engine running 28—45 PSI

bad fuel pump relay; swap with horn relay, as long as it honks, in engine bay Power Distribution Box (PDB); Diagram in a 92 Bronco @ fuses92f.jpg

blown fuel pump fuse, start at PDB **** fuse #1. See others in PDB, my tablet won't re-open the diagram now.

plugged fuel filter or line, causing no or low fuel pressure.

miesk5, ok I can hear the pump and I've got 40 psi on pressure gauge but no spark with either coil or either after marker MSD ignition and stock ignition, fuses are all good it just won't start. I'm wandering if there is something wrong with the Engines computer? I even put on an old MAP sensor thinking it wasn't getting fuel air mixture right. Doesn't the wire that goes to solenoid that is an ignition wire which I thought energizes the ignition, could the wire be bad or the solenoid be bad? Any other ideas of what to trouble shoot for, let me know. I appreciate all your help. it seems you're the man with all the answers of what to check.

Yo Rog,

Here are some Wiring Diagrams, same as Ford EVTM;

Can you identify the wires that you mentioned?

If you meant the wire to starter solenoid atop starter or the starter relay on passenger side inner fender, No because starter cranks and that red/ light blue wire does not interact with the MAP Sensor nor the Coil.

Ignition, coil, TFI, EEC, Distributor, SPOUT

Fuel;

MAP, TPS, FUEL INJECTORS, ECT, ETC.

Start;

Ignition Switch, MLPS, STARTER RELAY TO STARTER MOTOR SOLENOID, & BATTERY

It may be you neutral safety switch. This happened to mine 90. I clean the green connector under the hood in front of the driver side with electrical cleaner. It was a dirty connected.

When my '93 left me at work with no spark, turned out the PIP in the distributor had gone bad.  I didn't have time to tear down the distributor, so I had to replace the whole thing.
