does not show Fuse #s, but you can prob figure it out.

See if you can isolate circuits the fuse feeds

Here is an 83 fuse block. to my knowledge, they are the same 80 - 86.  Once you figure out which fuse it is, try this for isolating the problem.

Get yourself a 12V bulb socket and a 12V bulb.  Strip some insulation off the leads to the socket and tin them with solder.  That makes them stiff enough to use as probes. Then put the bulb in place of the fuse, if the circuit is shorted or drawing current of any type, the bulb will light, the brighter the more current that is being drawn.  Disconnect any connectors in the circuit untill the light goes out, work your way back from the fuse block or start at the furthest end of the circuit. When the light goes out you are pretty close.  You might want to start with the conector where you were last working.

Did the column come from a newer Bronco, perhaps an 84 or newer?

Good luck,

:)>-

This is a shift indicator circuit for an83, it am guessing that it is the same for an 82.  Are you saying that when you put it in 4x4 the fuse blows? Exactly which fuse blows?  "it blows when u put it n accessory or to the on position", (when you put what in accessory or to the on position)?

OK here are the circuits that may be connected to fuse 6.  Do as I said in the above quote and troubleshoot the circuit.  Attached are the circuit diagrams for the things that can be attached to fuse 6.  Obviously you have a short and these are the things that get power from fuse 6 when the key is turned to On/Run or Acc.  If you have tapped off any power lines under the dash, the first thing to do is unhook whatever you have tapped in.

Any one of the taps from the fuse can be shorted, they exist no matter if you have that feature or not.  If you don't want to take the time to properly troubleshoot the problem, you can try running a new wire just to the 4x4 indicator.
